NDJ:8 “Time” by Jill Newberger

I have known the wondrous timelessness
I have sat in sessions
my own and of my patients
where time vanishes the moment it appears
and where it drags its
ball and chain
in mind-numbing enslavement to seconds, minutes, quarter hours,
half hours, clinical hour.
I have known time
yet know nothing of it
an old woman and a neonate
I am both
while
the tick of the clock
in stillness
sounds.
